I talked to Susan at the Georgia Surface mining Unit this afternoon.

B2B; Can gold be mined without a permit until it is sold?

Susan: Absolutely not!. Any surface disturbance approaching mining, requires a permit.

B2B: Could they do sampling w/o permits?

Susan: They could do borings as long as they didn't tear up the surface.

B2B: Could they do any trenching?

Susan: Under some circumstances they could open as much a one acre w/o a State permit, but would need local permits.

B2B: How long is the permitting process?

Susan: I'd say a minimum of 6 months, but for an open pit mining permit any where close to surface water, it would a year or maybe two. If the Corps of Engineers gets involved, expect two years

B2B: They claim that mining equipment is being crated in Thailand for shipment to the site. Would they be allowed to set up equipment w/o permits.

Susan: No. All parties involved in something like that would be subject to civil penalties.

B2B: One more thing. How many commercial gold mines are operating in Georgia?

Susan: None. We have a couple of what we call recreational panning businesses.

I thanked her for her time and told her I'd be in contact if I read any more improbable claims made by DKGR.
