Hi Neil, You've hit the achilles heel of AIM. It's tempting to go for the most volatile stocks to get them max out of AIM. It's just a matter of time before you hit a diver that does not recover or takes years to recover.
I learned this lesson some time ago and have ceased AIMing individual stocks with some exceptions. Definitely I would avoid small cap stocks and stocks with no income.
