Yes, I agree they still have to find a good reason. Whenever we need to change the closing date due to a conflict, and plenty of time was given to notify all parties, the loan officer always ammended the contract to accomodate us (or the other party). I've not had any lender issues, but have had to change dates due to conflicts that have come up for myself or the seller/buyer.

I'm not a mortgage or lending expert, just noting my experiences in home buying. All I'm suggesting is that the contract mod is not that difficult, and is possible. For all purposes of this discussion, it's possible without too much hassle for the borrower.
