no, you can open the account and then fund it when you're ready. It can take almost a week to get everything ready to trade, 1st, you do the app, then put in your banking info for funding, they make 2 small deposits to your bank account, then you come back and tell them how much was deposit, at that point, your bank account is linked and you are able to fund it. You can also fund it by wire transfers, ect, but I use my checkking account to move cash in and out. The whole process takes about a week before you can make your first trade
