OT: Perspective.
I debated posting, but decided my experience might help someone. Please keep some perspective in mind when investing. There are more important things in life.
In May I had endocarditis (infected heart valve), was in the hospital twice and had to take a four week course of iv antibiotics (switched part way through due to severe drug reaction). Endocarditis has a mortality rate of 25-30%.
After further testing, it was determined that my heart valve had degenerated further and was causing heart damage. When the Mayo Clinic recommends surgery "in a matter of weeks", you know its bad.
I had heart surgery a week ago today--I was told on a 0-4 scale, my valve was a 4+ (sorta like an F- on your report card).
Despite this, the surgeon was able to repair the valve (back to a zero) and replacement was not needed. And a week later I am at home, taking tylenol. I am one lucky dude.
My perspective has changed. How can I worry whether I made a bad stock decision, when last week I had a risk of never making another stock decision? It was surreal making some trades a week ago Friday, not knowing if I would be around to see the confirm come in the mail.
I am likely un-insurable now, so for anyone out there putting it off, consider getting some level term life insurance while you are healthy. I bought years ago and am thankful.
Oh yeah, and don't sweat the small stuff.
Thanks.
