Have you ever run your own business? I have and still do.
If anyone calls asking about anything, other than my products and services, they will absolutely not receive any information.
Today's markets are very competative and anyone calling for that type of information, I would just assume is looking for an edge...unless I know them or a contact person.
So, don't be surprised if you don't get verification, one way or the other.
