FAVE - my pick this week

Simulated Environment Concepts, Inc.

More and more people require a service that can quickly and efficiently relax on demand. The realization of this global change inspired Dr. Ella Frenkel and Dr. Ilya Spivak, the founders of the Simulated Environment Concepts, Inc. to create an automated device with multifaceted and efficient approach to relaxation, addressing all human senses – sight, smell, hearing and touch. That is how the SpaCapsule® was born…
The exceptional people who make up Simulated Environment Concepts, Inc. are all committed to provide our customers with the highest quality products and services. Our goal is to offer to the world the cost effective relaxation equipment that improves people’s lives, while providing rewarding business opportunity for entrepreneurs around the globe.

AWARD WINNING PRDUCT

July, 2005, SEC, Inc. was granted its second United States patent.
January, 2007, at the Sport and Recreation Tech Trade Show in Rotterdam, the SpaCapsule® has won the Leisure Trend Award 2007 for being the Most Original Profit Center!

MARKETABLE PRODUCT WHICH IS IN DEMAND

SpaCapsule® and Starbucks’ Frappuccino®

Lets play a “what if” game. Imagine: the Starbucks creating a relaxation boutique offering massage, health related items, relaxation environment and, of-course, double-mocha-whipped-cream-frappuccino, among other amazingly delicious concoctions.

What would you say then: “What? Starbucks and Massage? Starbucks and Relaxation? What a crazy idea!”

But if you look at the trend, this is exactly the direction of Retail Relaxation Marketplace.

Just look at the new start-ups; RelaxOasis, UrbanOasis, Destination Relaxation Baltimore-Washington International Airport; Polished Spa, and Jet Setter Mini Spa, and The Hilton Health Club and Spa at Logan International Airport - Boston, Massachusetts (yep, that’s three retail spas in one airport); d-parture spa at Newark International Airport - New Jersey; Molton Brown Travel Spa and Oasis Day Spa at JFK and many, many others; and of course, note the upcoming little-giants such as XpressSpa with nine current locations in the US airports already, and 12 new locations in the works.

Can this trend be ignored? I don’t think so. I believe it has ripened and is here to stay. It is new and very exciting. It feels just like the beginning, with many powerful players still on the sidelines.

To continue with our Starbucks analogy, the retail spa industry is still in the “coffee shop” stage, it’s just a matter of short while until the industry is taken over by a Starbucks’-minded group of creative individuals who will take the industry by storm. One thing I can guarantee for sure, the SpaCapsule® Relaxation Massage, Aromatherapy and Audio-Visual environment will be in the forefront of the trend. Why? Well, it’s a no-brainer: as the industry grows, there will be an increasing demand on the professionals who are staffing the businesses; I believe there will be a hunt and a war for qualified people. But the SpaCapsule® doesn’t require any qualifications, it is a 24 hour workhorse that can replace (or augment) several massage therapists; moreover, (with all due respect to massage professionals or chair massage companies) there isn’t a single individual in the world who is capable of working so hard for so long and still, at the end of the day, produce a consistently powerful massage and relaxation experience.

As I finish here, please consider just one footnote: Glen Ivy Day Spa in Brea Mall, (Brea – California, Southeast of Los Angeles) sold over $1 million in Gift Cards during this past Christmas Season. Since its opening in 2002 the sales have topped $6 million per year. If this is not a trend, I don’t know what is.

“Such numbers indicate how spas have become mainstream”, says Kirwan Rockefeller, co-creator of the Spa Hospitality Management Program at UC Irvine Extension. The professor said that “… we’re simply reviving old Roman and Egyptian customs. This isn’t something that’s going to die away,” said Rockefeller. “I think it will be passed along to younger generations as the whole health movement evolves. It speaks to people’s need to connect with the deepest parts that make us human. That’ll never go out of style.”
