be careful with metaphors... a brick is the metaphor because the data on the drive is gibberish, although still visible under the right procedures. the drive does not become inert, or totally inaccessable to probing, like the brick metaphor suggests, which leads to your is a 'sticker' a deterence point, which implicitely assumes that the object of a laptop thief is the data, not the resale value of the physical laptop.
