Semiconductor Insights Confirms Key Features of Intel "Prescott"
OTTAWA, CANADA, Feb 12, 2004 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Semiconductor Insights (SI), the leader in technology and patent analyses of integrated circuits and structures, has independently verified key features of Intel's much anticipated new Pentium 4 microprocessor, code-named "Prescott". This represents the first independent confirmation of the major innovations announced by Intel in their 90nm process. "The technical achievements embodied in the "Prescott" have set a new benchmark in the industry for innovation and device integration", said Semiconductor Insights President and CEO, Dr. Doug Smeaton.

SI's preliminary analysis has confirmed the presence of seven levels of copper metalization and revealed several industry firsts, including an advanced nickel - silicide process on the transistor gates, a strained silicon SiGe layer to improve channel mobility, and uniquely customized PMOS and NMOS devices. The process also confirms Intel's stated position that SOI is unnecessary to achieve high performance.
