I have a question?

If something is worth $40 and is tied directly to something that is $65-$70, would it not be worth more than $40 if that something was changed to $80-$83?

Just wondering? I believe it would, but some must not. Or is it like it was X, before it was Y, then it was not X, it was X+ something?
