From a legal standpoint that is really funny. In fact, the only industry that I know of where the charges do not have to be reasonable is medicine. Most states if not all of them have statutes that allow charges for medical care that are "ordinary and customary" or words to similar intent.

That has lead to the odd situation where an uninsured person may get a $500 bill for an emergency room visit while a managed care patient's carrier might pay $20.

BTW - I am not anti-MD or hospitals.

My dad was an MD and all he cared about was his patients. He was a great doctor and a lousy businessman.
