It's amazing what fear can make you do, isn't it? Remember Bob Allen, the family values Republican representative from Florida involved in the McCain campaign who got arrested at a restroom for soliciting an undercover officer? Well, it turns out that it was all just a big misunderstanding. All he was trying to do was get away from the officer. And he told them so when they arrested him. "This was a pretty stocky black guy, and there was nothing but other black guys around in the park," he said. "I was afraid I was about to be a statistic," he added, saying that he would have said anything just to get away.

It all makes sense now. The reason all those undercover narcotics officers in the park saw Allen hanging around outside the men's room must have been because Allen had to go really badly, but was afraid to go inside because of the neighborhood. But finally after an hour he just couldn't hold it any longer, and it was just a coincidence that he followed the officer inside. When he knocked on the officer's stall, struck up a conversation, entered the stall, offered the officer $20 for sex, and suggested they take a drive together to another part of town, it was because he thought it was the only way he could get away alive. I'm so glad he cleared that up for us.
