Layoffs stabilizing?

Jobless claims lowest since Sept 15th.

WASHINGTON, Nov 8 (Reuters) - U.S. Labor Department report of initial state jobless benefit claims, seasonally adjusted.

STATES WITH DECREASE IN CLAIMS OF MORE THAN 1,000:
Five states reported decreases in claims of more than 1,000 in the week ended Oct 27, the latest period for which the data are available. Among the largest were:

Kansas -2,105

Ten states reported increases in claims of more than 1,000 in the week ended Oct 27, the latest period for which the data are available. Among the largest were:
            
Michigan +3,895
North Carolina +3,257
Georgia +3,162
Virginia +1,763

FORECAST:
Reuters survey of economists forecast: U.S. jobless claims of 504,000 for Nov. 3 week.

COMMENTS:
California said it had fewer layoffs in the construction, wholesale trade, retail trade, service and in the motion picture industry. Kansas had fewer layoffs in the transportation, trade and manufacturing industries. Michigan said it had more layoffs in the automobile industry. North Carolina had more layoffs in the textile, furniture and stone/clay/glass industries. Georgia reported more layoffs in the automobile, communications, and fabricated metals industries. Virginia had more layoffs in the textile, furniture, retail trade and air transportation industries.
