Hi all, here is a second program for all you home builders. Found this in Smart Computing, Windows XP Tips & Tricks. On page 30 they talk about the bootvis program from microsoft, and how it can help speed up the start up boot time. Note you will probabely only shave a few seconds off of the start up. Here is where you used to be able to get it. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboot/bootvis.mspx This is some interesting reading, Microsoft is now saying that it will not help you and has withdrew the tool. This was not what they used to say. lol Here is where I got the tool today! http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664 I just installed it and ran it. it still works the way it is supost to work. After installing it, restart your computer. then start Bootvis, if you want to compare befor and after times here is what you do. Go to the trace menu and select (Next Boot and driver delays) command. Bootvis will monitor the next bootup. There will be a delay while bootvis caculates everything then it will reappear, You now have how long it took. Now go back to the trace menu and select optimize system. Boootvis will now caculate which drivers should be where on your hard drive for the fastest boot. It says this right on the popup window. I am not sure how microsoft could think that it doesn't do this. lol Grab this program before microsoft makes them take it down. If you want to get a second time just do the first command again, and see how much less time it takes to bootup.
