If you are a legitmate oilman, an oil scam is the most offensive thing you can imagine. BDGR blackens the industry, BDGR makes it harder for legitimate players to raise money, BDGR will probably cause new regulations to be written, BDGR does not pay their bills, and has directly hurt some friends and acquaintances. All of this causes hardship and decreased profitability for the rest of the industry.

And if you have worked in the industry for awhile you see people get suckered into scams every time oil price booms, but especially in the 1970s and 2000s.

I thought, I'll bet these investors would like to know a few of these things so they can get out before they get hurt any worse. Hah! Not a chance. It's first viewed as a personal attack, and then dismissed as paid bashing. In fact, I notice that the more disturbing the fact, the more intense the denial and the bigger the defensive reaction.

It's like suggesting to your daughther that her boyfriend is no good; it's sure to backfire. Human beings, you gotta love 'em.
