A different take on the Forbes piece. For years, IDCC investors have begged for recognition and legitimacy in the wireless and investment communities. Welcome to the big time. While a long term Qualcomm investor, I`ve kept abreast of developments in the wireless sector, including the progress of Interdigital.Often it has seemed curious that the IDCC boards have been festooned with ant-Qualcomm sentiment, evidenced by gleefully posted negative articles referencing Qualcomm. I still don`t understand how "bad for Qualcomm" is "good for Interdigital".
Hatchet jobs by the financial press, agenda-driven analysts, and writers go with the territory for upstart technology companies with attitude. Get over it. The "establishment" doesn`t historically treat upstart technology companies with attitude, as heroes. Interdigital must swim upstream against the current, sign pivotal licenses, and show the resultant revenues and profits, to gain the respect it seeks. As its business improves, and speculative issues get put to bed, so shall its fortunes be recognized.
No one wants to pay royalties that can be avoided. Tenacious adherence to the business game plan, combined with successful litigation where necessary, are required. If you truly have the goods, you will be greatly rewarded for your patience.
After awhile, you will learn to shrug off the hurtful opinions of the uninformed. It will feel that much better to prove the naysayers wrong.Along the way, negative press forces you to periodically re-examine your investment thesis. That actually is a positive thing.
