imho, not exactly true, a company can have negative earnings in one year, let's call that a loss, and than if the following year they either didn't lose as much, or made a small profit, than their earnings have increased.

i'm not saying that i believe bdgr made a profit in 2006, i just don't know, also it would help to define the type of profit being referred to: EBIT, EBITDA, or bottom line.

a company can make $500k EBIT or EBITDA profit and than end up with a nice loss on the bottom line.
