Don't be so quick to forgive HP yet.

Spent a couple hours this evening trying to find out what CPU you could install on that board.

The board doesn't exist anywhere except at HP. Asus does not manufacture it for sale and does not support it. Their absolute cheapest P4 board <$40 has more features. Sounds like HP had a propriatary board made to their specs and bought the entire run.

PC 133 or PC 1600 RAM is so 5 generations ago. I don't think that the CPU can be upgraded and I don't believe the board will take faster RAM.

If it walks like a Packard Bell and it squaks like a Packard Bell..............

don't let their sales dept sell you a new machine. It probably won't upgrade either.
