There are two ways to solve this. First QT opens a temp file and leaves the data when it closes. These temp files tend to build up over time and can cause sluggish behavior. QT is also a big memory pig.
Try this first. Download Ace Utilities and run it. DON'T USE EXPERT MODE! After running it for the first time cleaning out the registry, the junk files and the IE temp files and history files, it will ask you if you want to dump more than 100Mb of data from memory. (I have seen as much as a Gb get dumped) Trust it completely and dump it all. Run it every day and defrag every day. That should solve your problem.

The second and more expensive option is to double your RAM. That will work too and probably, combined with Ace utilities, make your 'puter much faster under the load.
