To me, I think the need for personal computer hdd's to be fde is not critical.

No? Do you remember "trust at the edge"?

When your personal data no longer exists on the server, but on your PC, you don't want that encrypted?

Today, with so much data on a server, it is one target to get 47.5 million accounts. So no one bothers to spend time on 47.5 individual targets to get one account each.

In the future, those 47.5m targets will be easy prey unencrypted. So in this regard, I would disagree. There will be a time when you will want everything protected. For me, it was yesterday.
