I hear you and I too am basically a blues/rock guy that slowly gained an appreciation for Jazz during high school. For me as a player, jazz guitar has a unique and expanded musical vocabulary with a softer less dramatic attack while at the same time being balls technically monstrous. Although There's nothing better than SRV rendition of Jimmy's Little Wing.
