Ever heard of an ethernet cable? They cost $10 and connect your laptop to a 100 Mbs network. It will be more than twice as fast as a 50Mbs g wireless because there is less overhead.

By the way if you want to copy a DVD movie just put the disk in your laptop and copy away. No network needed.
