300 - Theater

What can I say about a movie that I have been anticipating for just over a year now? Well to be fair, I’ll start out with the truth. This was not an award winning movie, but I didn’t go into it with those expectations either.

This was a solid story, with visuals that demand your attention. The film moves at the proper pace, and it is complimented with a fine unknown cast of actors.

I certainly have been hearing that there was just not enough character development, but the movie would have had to of been three hours to achieve that.

I loved the scenery. I loved the camaraderie. I loved the devotion and the passion of the Spartans. I loved the battle scenes. Leonidas will be affixed in my head for some time now.

Now let me tell you what I didn’t like. I might be the only one to say this, but I really wanted some more fight scenes. Or at least would have liked for them to be spread out just a little more. I also wished that when the Spartans were gashing their way through endless crowds, that the blood they were splashing through the air would have landed on their bodies. It would just disappear and I feel that is where computers fail us when it comes to CGI in this new era of cinema.

I won’t lie and tell you that the movie received a standing ovation. However, it did receive three applauds throughout; the ending was the biggest.

I see so many movies that they are easy to forget just as quickly as I am onto the next, but let me assure you my friends, 300 will not die from my memory.

I loved it for what it was, and that is how I will rate it.

3.24 out of 4 pickles for a great new look and a story of true heroism; Frank Miller is hitting homeruns in my eyes. Kudos to Snyder.
