bare facts and shark tales....
speaking of florida AND of keeping the tourists away....

why in the heck is ANYBODY going in the ocean with all these sharks chowing down like this? another shark bite death in the news today, and i can't help but wonder if the victim wasn't acting out some kind of death wish just going into the water in the first place! i mean, what's up with swimming in shark-infested waters, anyway? isn't that about the same as, oh, i don't know, sleeping on the railroad tracks? sooner or later, things are bound to get messy.

as far as i'm concerned, if there is a shark in the water off the coast of florida, i figure there is a potential for it to make its way into the pacific and to end up right off the california coast. that's reason enough for me, right there, to stay on dry land.

speaking now of dry land....

because i live in california, like all other residents of the northern half of the state, i have become familiar with bears, as they seem to want to show up more and more in areas populated by humans. (yes, i know, the reason is because the areas used to be populated by bears, but that's not where i'm going with this.)

anyway, in the interest of public safety when it comes to big furry bear critters, i heard this wonderful bit of advice on the news the other evening....

IF YOU ARE EVER BEING CHASED BY A BEAR, and you want to find out if it's a black bear or a grizzly bear, just climb a tree.

if it's a black bear, he'll climb up the tree after you.

if it's a grizzly bear, he'll simply knock the tree down to get at you.

this has been a things that amuse me public service announcement
