Now they claim that the IFE device would be good for cruise ships, hotels, car rental agencies, etc. It sounds good, but IMO, none of the above represent good potential.
Who goes on a cruise, which is filled with activities for everyone, to sit and watch a movie on a 7-inch screen?
Hotels already have PPV movies that they make money on. Why watch a 7" screen when you can watch the 27" in your room?
Most people who rent cars either rent them on business trips, personal business or for tooling around a vacation destination. Very few rent them for long-term trips where you want to entertain the kids in the back seat with a video player.
How many people do you know who have ever gone on an expensive cruise who would pay extra to rent a 7" video screen to view a 20th Century Fox movie?
My parents are avid participants in cruises (they've been on over 10 long-term cruises - as long as 6 weeks at a time). From their photos, videos and explanations of their cruises, I can not even begin to imagine that they would ever rent a portable movie/video device to view during their cruises. There are so many activities for them to participate in that it is impossible to believe that they would ever pay extra to sit and watch a movie on a 7" screen.
Maybe you know people who go on cruises who don't enjoy the cruise activities, so would prefer to rent a 7" screen video device that would let them watch movies that are only from 20th Century Fox (but not from any other studios).
That's five references to a 7 inch screen in 2 posts. I just thought you didn't think much of them but you really thought the one from Sharper Image was cool. Why is it cool? Where would it be cool?
