I put that statement in the same category as the claim that the Lanier Cquence Mobile product would be expanded to the legal industry. I know that Lanier never had a plan to do that. It seems to have been a speculative statement from EDIG to give investors the idea that the contract could be much larger than it was.
Now they claim that the IFE device would be good for cruise ships, hotels, car rental agencies, etc. It sounds good, but IMO, none of the above represent good potential.
Who goes on a cruise, which is filled with activities for everyone, to sit and watch a movie on a 7-inch screen?
Hotels already have PPV movies that they make money on. Why watch a 7" screen when you can watch the 27" in your room?
Most people who rent cars either rent them on business trips, personal business or for tooling around a vacation destination. Very few rent them for long-term trips where you want to entertain the kids in the back seat with a video player.
Lastly, in all of the above, there is much potential for loss or theft of the device, whereas on an enclosed airplane there is less potential.
As I said, I see very little opportunity in these areas. We'll see if EDIG proves I am wrong.
