T was the stock to own way back when as they were the only game in town. When they broke up T into the baby Bells the town in NC I live in had its own phone company. They received protection to continue on their own with the caveat that they could not charge more than Bell South. For cable access we had Time Warner(after a couple of years of DSL) Remember the Utility / phone company owns the poles which in our case was the town. And in our development the right of way for underground service. And Time Warner was the only company interested in the market.

And since our little phone company didn't offer cellphone service they teamed up again with AT&T who was now in the cell business to offer us cellphone service at a discount.

So I received 2 bills, one for cable and the other for the home phone and cellphones which was billed by the local phone company. And that is how I became an AT&T cellphone customer. I was happy with AT&T until they bailed on the deal with my phone company and closed their office in town. And yes their service sucked at the beach.

Mean while Spectrum the evil cable company bought out Time Warner and their service started to suck as well.

However my local phone company wasn't asleep at the switch and was running fiber optic lines throughout the town. Once they pulled the lines to our development I signed up and had them use the coaxial cable to pull the Ethernet cable into the house. I returned their wireless router and bought the latest and greatest since I feel the need for speed with two of us working from home during the pandemic.

VZ built an office 2 minutes from the house and if I have any problems with our cellphones we can run right up there and get them fixed.

BTW Southern Bell bought out AT&T years ago and kep the T name.

The judge who broke up the company is flipping in his grave.
