The best analogy for pediatric Rett is that a baseball player hit one over the fence but it curved foul at the last second. No runs scored and it’s a nothing but a long strike. In that sense the pitch was a failure, no different than a swing and a miss. But the at-bat is still ongoing and now everyone in the stadium knows what the batter is capable of, now that he has the pitcher’s number. In this sense the at-bat isn’t a failure. We need more pitches to see how the at-bat unfolds.
