if robotaxis use lidar alongside the FSD learning models then there is hope they could be ready sooner. All the competitors who are ahead of TSLA for automated driving have lidar. Some may get general use permits in the next year may be not in the USA though.

Did Elon actually say 8/8 of this year? Notorious for being off by a year or three.

Still waiting to see a formal announcement but without a PR department will be hard to confirm.
