After the video calll with the lung transplant surgeon, I cried for the description of the surgery , & pre/post operative horrified me! I’ll be in the hospital for 3 weeks. Then 3 months of rehabilitation. I’ll stay in an apartment provided by the hospital for 3 months. I will be put on massive immunosuppressant medication around the clock! 30% patients die in first 3-5 years & 70% at 10years & beyond. It’s the immunosuppressant drugs that cause toxicity to the heart and kidneys. Yet they are now doing what’s called immune tolerance. In which the donors stem cells are collected & given to transplant recipient prior to surgery. This creates a dual immune system. In which your body recognizes the transplant as your own! So no immunosuppressant drugs. They’re just now doing it on kidneys & livers. Like I said this is my last option. I’m trying to get into clinical trials but unsuccessfull so far. My friend & neighbor developed breast cancer 15 years ago. She had chemotherapy and a mastectomy. Then she developed another cancerous bump 8years ago. She went through chemotherapy again & another mastectomy. She’s been cancer free since then. Be supportive & keep praying Gunny. God has your back! ……….
