Yes, cows contribute to climate change because they are the world's largest agricultural source of methane, a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere. A single cow can emit up to 500 liters of methane per day, and the world's 940 million cows produce almost 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Methane from cows comes from their digestion and waste, including belches and droppings. In the United States, methane from cattle accounts for about 4.5% of total greenhouse gas emissions.
