Better to go on a Mediterranean diet instead of a Vegan diet

This study found that switching to a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil, nuts, beans, fish, fruits and vegetables can help prevent about 30% of heart attacks, strokes and deaths from heart disease in high-risk individuals compared to a typical low-fat diet.
After following over 7,000 high-risk individuals for 5 years, researchers found that those assigned to a Mediterranean diet had a 30% lower risk of heart attacks, strokes or death from cardiovascular causes compared to a low-fat control group.
The Mediterranean diet is associated with reduced risk factors for cardiovascular disease like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, which are major contributors to heart attacks.
The American Heart Association recommends the Mediterranean diet as it emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, olive oil and limits saturated fats - a dietary pattern proven to prevent heart disease and stroke.

A study of heart attack survivors found those following a Mediterranean diet had a 50-70% lower risk of recurrent heart disease compared to those on a typical American Heart Association diet.

In summary, multiple large studies provide strong evidence that the Mediterranean diet, rich in healthy plant foods and olive oil while low in red meat and saturated fat, can significantly reduce the risk of initial and recurrent heart attacks by 30-70% compared to a typical Western diet.
