I think it's sand rather than salt. Unfortunately. I could handle the salt, but there's no way he could shake off all the sand.

Several people asked what the food was, but nobody answered. if you scroll down, there's another video in which bread is cooked on (and in) very hot small black pebbles. That would be fine; they're much bigger than grains of sand.
