Analysts set high price targets in order to generate investor interest and trading across their firms’ platforms.



As is routinely disclosed, analysts typically set one year price targets. So your view is that those targets are set artificially high to attract business and those analysts don't mind looking like fools when the targets are not met? It is certainly true that rating firms publicly follow companies with the hopes of furnishing investment banking services in the future but it doesn't make sense that these firms and their analysts don't have reputational restraints that govern their work so I don't buy your theory at all.
