I was having a conversation with my wife, and somehow the subject turned to technology.

Awww we are just regurgitating old technology.

Fiber optics, I learned about it and how it works when I was 12 (invented in Canada obviously)

I had for Christmas on year an electronics set, I created a solar powered radio in the 1970's

I remember commercials in the 70's for CanDo nuclear reactors. Why they were promoting this during a kids show is really a mystery. Did they think a kid would buy one? (I suppose I might have if my 25 cents allowance could afford it)

Then we move on a few years, I'm at college, I have this small black and white TV and a coat hanger for an antenna. Ok, a bit of snow in the image, but easy enough to see and follow the story.

Move on a few years later, I'm in France, they are digitizing the TV transmissions, gotta buy a decoder.

Move on a few more years and now, your decoder is shit because they have moved on to High def transmissions and the decoder is useless and pretty much your TV. Need a new decoder and TV.

Then comes the generation of smart TVs, rendering your new/old TV obsolete.

Then you have all this new crap when you were quite happy with the old crap, and one day you want to watch on of your favorite films of all time that you have on video cassette... AND... no way to do it, The TV is so sophisticated that a slightly bad signal from an old video isn't tolerated. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE IMAGE QUALITY? I JUST WANT TO WATCH THE DAMN FILM!!!

Maybe It's just me
