The decision represents an abandonment of a longstanding goal that Tesla(TSLA.O), opens new tab chief Elon Musk has often characterized as its primary mission: affordable electric cars for the masses. His first “master plan”, opens new tab for the company in 2006 called for manufacturing luxury models first, then using the profits to finance a “low cost family car.”

This could be what Musk is actually accusing Reuters of "lying" about. Claiming that this decision is a deviation from Musks master plan in 2006 when Tesla did in fact manufacture luxury models first and then used those profits to develop a "low cost family car". You could say the 3 or Y are low cost family cars when they are sold, before credits, for less than 40k. Wasnt the model 2 supposed to be more of a commuter car than "family car"?

Anyways, that seems to be what Musk is actually calling out Reuters for lying about and Tesla is scrapping its Model 2.

Tesla can use the base platform for robotaxis but robotaxis requires level 4/5 FSD and FSD is only level 2 and is still causing accidents. So all Tesla can do is do trials of its robotaxi in cities (limited Level 4) autonomous.
