I agree with this approach simply because Cole has no tear in his UCL and rest and rehab might cure his ills---if not, the result is disaster...Tanaka threw a half-decade with a partial tear---of course Tanaka had a splitter, sinker, and slider to offset his not throwing his 4-seamer---Cole doesn't have this option

“Partial tear” is a nebulous term that can describe anything from light fraying to a state just short of snapping. “Some partial tears need surgery no matter what,” says Glenn Fleisig, research director at the American Sports Medicine Institute. “Some partial tears it would be ridiculous to have surgery — they could easily get better from rehab.
