Real estate investment depending on location usually works out.

We bought our house in 1993 for $84 K and now I can get close to $300K. I've done everything I can as far as upgrades etc. and we're in the city limits close to shopping but it still looks rural and sits on 1/2 acre wooded.

Once a week I get mail offering to buy our house. They even include a picture of the house.
