So KBLB has never taken a minority ownership in the sericultural space? That is exactly what they did with the 3rd party manufacturer.

The 3rd party manufacturer is a contractor. KBLB does not share in their profit or loss. Evidently, the minority ownership only gives them access to the books and control over where the spidersilk goes. Another way to look at it, if KBLB sells the eggs to GSS at a higher price then KBLB makes more money and GSS makes less profit. Likewise, KBLB is pretty much in control of the price of the spidersilk produced by GSS, so if KBLB increases what they pay GSS for spidersilk, KBLB will make less money and GSS will make more.

Another obvious omission: Why would a company capable of producing 200 metric tons of silk not be raising mundane silkworms while they are waiting on KBLB to deliver Spidersilk eggs? Who's using all that mulberry now? If they are producing mundane silk now, why isn't KBLB sharing in the profits, or losses if they are this part owner that you suggest they are?

The district's silkworm cocoons output is over 30 tons/year, the average product value is over VND 300 million/ha/year. The profit is 2.5 - 3 times higher than growing rice or other vegetables, thus contributing to raising incomes for many households in the district.Jun 14, 2023
