KBLB isn't going to make money in mundane silk? Oh brother. So KBLB has never taken a minority ownership in the sericultural space? That is exactly what they did with the 3rd party manufacturer. That could easily happen in the mundane silk arena. It won't be big money compared to DS manufacturing, but it all depends on how partnerships are structured.

Royalties or a percentage of sales, or partial ownership. They get what we have, and we get what we want. Which for Vietnam, includes satisfying a long sought after ability to make robust eggs within their own borders.

KBLB automatically competes with China, if China loses a customer. It's a win win, or China steps up and extends better genetics(yes using hybridization to develop their hybrids) It is combining 2 or more families. Which is modifying genetics in their offspring.

I didn't see M4N say anything about injecting genes. Hybridization presumes dissimilar genetic families, mating, and modifying a silkworms genetic makeup, for the purpose of healthier silkworms, and improved cocoons. The offspring will have the combined genetics, and that is a genetic modification....which is what M4N stated. Genetic modifications are inherent in hybridized silkworms. The results should make that obvious. jealmc79 interpreted what he said poorly.

A biologist would likely be better at enlightening us all, but there is no reason to be hyper sensitive about these things. Don't argue, just leave it to the experts.

Different companies should probably breed individual lines, and a 3rd company breed the hybrids. Once you have a winning combination, you have to maintain separation of the lines. Not sure how that will be maintained....but everyone is going to make money, and certainly KBLB will find a way.
