Berzelius has a patented composite material that is basically a pure silicon core, then a silicon oxide layer, then a silicon carbide layer, and finally an outer carbon layer. The progressive outer layers of silicon oxide, silicon carbide, and carbon protect and stabilize the "silicon core" (SiCore) of the spherical particles, allowing a jump in energy density with less expansion and degradation. A similar approach to Group14 and Sila Nano.

Sounds like more specific capacity than G14 and Sila, but also more complicated... so not sure how it all compares yet. The resulting SiCore batteries look promising though.
