While on a tour of Masada, we were looking at the wall mounted photos of the sulfur pits there, and someone in the tour group asked the tour guide a question, what's underneath the sulfur caps, thinking it might be oil because of the high oil content in the Dead Sea.

So she talks about an oil drilling from the 1950s. So thanks to her tip, I looked, and sure enough, here it is. A photo of a fully licensed and approved Israel oil drilling, with the rig sitting on a sulfur pit, drilling for oil.
