stoxjock, I agree this market runup may be a setup for end of year profit taking after many already sold their tax loses to keep within Wash rules. I like to have lots of cash to buy securities I feel have been over sold and should move up faster 1st of year. I do all my buy's and sells ether through STO-sell to open Covered Calls when my security looks over bought and in top of 30 day Bollinger band.

With cash in account I then look for over sold securities that are trading in the bottom of Bollinger band with a STO-sell to open PUT, which is a optimistic play that you feel the pps will be above ( or below if you wish to acquire the stock and with your premium you already collected makes it a good bet) your Put strike price at expiration date which I use 30 day to 90 days out till expiation date for max premium. Note: these STO PUTS are my main money maker as they usually expirer with 100% premium I collected.

Also very important - I only do these with stock I would like to be assigned at my PUT option price and the extra premium collected makes your cost per share lower. You also need to review the company fundamentals to see where the pps should move - will the expected EPS increase or decrease going forward plus companies book value and if there will be a X-Dividend date during your option period. I have lately gone after many high dividend stock, and play them within ether the Calls or Puts within their Bollinger bans. I hit a home run on OMF that pays $1.00 ps which has ran up over $10 in last couple weeks - right now it has moved too far north to play.

I am buying heavily now with STO PUTS on IEP = https://finviz.com/quote.ashx?t=IEP&ty=c&ta=1&p=d
which has been hammered by large short hedge fund moving down from $50 to now $15.51 I have been doing the Jan and Feb $17.50 PUTS collecting $2 plus premium which would put my cost at $15.50 or lower if assigned. Yes, they lost big $$ in 2023 but the expected EPS moves up fast next year plus if you acquirer the stock which I have been tiring they pay $1.00 ps dividend which is over a 35% dividend return plus lots of upside trading below book value.

It is all about keeping cash flow coming into your act. and not out! Good luck to all! Like Lodas I am big with options plays and make big $$ but I also signed my releases and hold a vary large amounts of WMI escrow shares plus lot of preferred. and do feel we should get nice return and hopeful soon. From how much Lodas bashes escrow holders I feel he did not sign his releases on his big 195k shares. All IMO!
