A car exploded at a checkpoint near Niagara Falls, resulting in the closure of a bridge connecting the US and Canada on Wednesday, one of the busiest travel days of the year, officials said.
The Rainbow Bridge — which leads into Niagara Falls — was temporarily closed after the car heading into the US exploded around 11:15 a.m., according to the city mayor’s office.
The incident is being investigated as an attempted terror attack, sources told Fox News.
Explosives were uncovered in the vehicle and two occupants are dead, the sources said.
