Frugal Flo’s Tips on beef broth storage
And how NOT to do it
OMG, what a FAIL I had with my first attempt, big big mess, LOL
So I had cooked a roast beef in the crock with all the usual stuff, taters, carrots, onions, and seasoning and stuff. I used to just throw away that broth after (silly me).
The FAIL, I put the broth in 4 small bowls and stuck the bowls in the freezer with the idea of after they were frozen I could take the frozen broth out and package them with the food saver/seal a meal. Bad idea, had to wait for them to thaw enough to get them out of bowls, that done I tried to put in food saver bags, ugggg, SMH. Grease/oil/broth got all over the place and the freezer bag wouldn’t seal right because of that.
Next brilliant idea, I’ll put the broth in a big plastic bowl with a lid and leave it sit over night in the fridge that way the grease/oil will solidify on the top and I’ll be able to just pick it up off the top. Then I’ll pour the broth in cleaned out Gatorade bottles then stick in the freezer.
Tips: Don’t fill bottles quite all the way because you’ll need room for expansion when it freezes and you’ll want to leave the cap a little loose for the same reason. When frozen you can tighten the lid and lay it down in the freezer.
Hey, I bet as cold as it’s getting you could leave the broth in the sealed big bowl on the porch or whatever just long enough for the grease/oil to solidify, you don't want it freezing in that big bowl, freeze it in the bottles over night outside so it does accidentally leak out in your freezer.
You can strain the broth or not, I’m not gonna. Made some gravy out of that frozen broth last night, it came out great.
Could prob freeze in ice cube trays then bag and store
Catch ya later, I’m off to get creative in the kitchen again, LOLOL
