Yes Florida and Texas were and still are considerations...but both have high humidity, and LOTS OF BUGS. We considered New Mexico but it is a D stronghold...just like Illinois.....no thanks.

We fell in love with AZ...less bugs (esp mosquitos) nice weather, close proximity to so many wonderful things to do ....but,as you said, Californians fleeing their wretched state, with massively overpriced homes, fled to Az, causing home prices to go through the roof.
