I will never weight defense as much as some do. And OF defense I weigh far less than infield defense (Much more important). I get that a great defensive OF gets to balls other can't get to. But to me those balls were mostly on the pitcher anyways for given them up for the most part. I mean don't get me wrong you can't have a disaster out there, but if he catches everything he can get to, that is all you need, as long as his arm is good enough so they don't always take the extra base. I'm not as big of speed guy as most, although I do admit with the new rules it does have more value right now to have it.
Philly is a vastly superior team to the d-backs. I always felt philly was built for the playoffs with those big bats and the pitchers at the top of the rotation. I'm worried the GM I got from you focuses too much on defense, that was my one concern in his hiring that defense doesn't help you score runs. It really is that simple. And nobody ever won with 0, so you need bats, not gloves in certain positions. I'm not saying the guy can be terrible defensively, I'm justbsaying giving the choice I rather live with every position being average defensively, and have better bats, than every position being better defensively, and have average bats. The bat will always be more important that the glove, especially in the OF in my opinion. Because unless your really bad even a slightly below average OF is gonna make almost all the plays you would feel off the bat should be made in my opinion. More defensive minded philosophy on infields I have to be honest. Just my philosophey.
