Arkansas LEARNS report: 95% of voucher students did not attend public school last year

The report includes a full list of each school accepting vouchers this year, how many voucher students they have and what percentage of the school’s total enrollment are voucher students.

There’s lots to peruse, but for now let’s highlight a handful of the schools with the most voucher students (again, these seven have around 30% of the total students in the voucher program):


The priciest on this list are Episcopal and Pulaski Academy. Little Rock Christian charges $11,895 to $13,980 in annual tuition depending on grade level; Central Arkansas Christian charges $9,093 to $10,755; Shiloh charges between $8,550 to $10,400 annually depending on grade, campus and church membership; Baptist Preparatory charges $8,422 to $12,092; and Christ the King charges $5,800 to $10,282.

Shiloh has campuses in Rogers and Springdale, but the rest of these schools are in the Little Rock area. That tracks with the broader numbers, with participating schools heavily concentrated in wealthier, more urban areas (see the map up top showing geographic concentration of voucher participants).

95% of voucher recipients keeping kids out of public schools is the goal of this policy. Rightwing extremists like Sarah Sanders are using school vouchers as one of their many ways to break the public education system.
