Genetically-modified murines are central in the Anavex story.

Thanks! Seems they have a mouse for everything!

Yes. There are multitudes of transgenic mice varieties with a multitude of human diseases and conditions. Twenty years ago, not so many. But, today, with modern genetic engineering, virtually any human genetic disease or condition can be inserted into the genomes of otherwise well-studied mouse and rat strains.

Anavex most surely has been testing their molecules in transgenic mice and rats ("murines") for some time. Running human clinical trials is expensive and time consuming. Exactly the opposite with transgenic murines. Inexpensive: the maintenance of lab murines is a well-developed and often-practiced technology. Results are faster, too, as the life spans of murines are much, much shorter than humans.

Let's watch; to see what new indications (diseases, conditions) Anavex will in the future be announcing. Going to be far more than just Rett, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's.
