the correct way to cook a Tri-Tip steak is to season with salt and pepper, get the frying pan hot, they sear each side foe about 4 minutes... then take Rosemary and baste it in butter, then dribble it all over the meat for the seasoning... test for about 160 degrees (medium rare), let stand a few minutes, then enjoy....one would only use dry rub seasoning if the meat is old with an odor...salt and pepper is all you need for seasoning.... bon apitee!!!....Lodas
by the way barbeque is the way barbarians cooked their meat, full of wood smoke and charcoal chemicals... the frying pan is the only way to go...
